The War Of The Phone Makers

So thinking about it lately and with the push Samsung just made with the Galaxy S I feel they are making a much better effort to release some real phones then they did before. Which has me wondering who will have the crown with Samsung clearly making their phone more supportive of the Android idea by supporting all carriers. HTC making more phones then the world needs in a year and Motorola locking the boot loader which I think will cost them customers in the end. Who will be the king of the Android ring? I personally think Samsung could be positioned to take the title soon if they get a early launch on the LTE network for Verizon. Going to go ahead and throw a poll up again and see what people think. Feel free to leave comments on your thoughts and companies that you think I might have missed in the contender list.

T-Mobile Social Buzz For All

Well I personally think they need a cookie for this though the software is not amazing it does enable Facebook, MySpace & Twitter contact sync all of which seem to work fine for me on Cyanogen Mod 6 RC1 except for Myspace *cries*. It is a little laggy the UI is not that bad though I hope they keep upgrading this software as it does have some very nice features with all the streams in one place. I would like to see a widget as many others have said on market already. But either way way to go T-Mobile for thinking out side of the box with releasing this to ALL Android phones regardless of service provider.

UPDATE: My Account > Sync on Myspace.com will let you grant the rights the tmobile app needs that it did not ask for fixing the MySpace part of the App

Launcher War! Poll

Please let me know in comments if there is another Launcher/Home Replacement that you would like to see added to the poll. This is much shorter then the last one running only 5 days. Lets see what launcher most of the readers like I will most likely make a small theme for the winning launcher if I can find the time to.

Droid X Might Never Be Rooted

Well the bad news has been getting around rather fast that the Droid X which is some amazing hardware is to use a signed boot loader that might prevent the unit from being rooted. Much like the Milestones boot loader has done for it which would be a real shame with the hardware its packing. This might also be effecting the Droid 2 which has most of the same hardware as the Droid X just sold as more of a Google phone like the Droid was. If the Droid 2 also has the signed boot loader this could be one of the worst moves Motorola could make and I'm sure will effect a lot of their customers that would other wise stay with the company and the Droid line because of the love for the first unit.

UPDATE: I stand corrected the Milestone has been rooted you just cannot flash a custom rom if the Droid X can do the same I guess thats not as bad as first impression but still not a thrilling thought.

Poll Closed

Well the What's your phone of choice poll has closed and after a month the Nexus One was still the winner followed by the Motorola Droid and the Evo.

Install Apps from Chrome via AppBrain

Well I'm very happy to say that the http://www.appbrain.com/ over the air installer their own version of what Google showed us at the I/O. Is now working on my Cyanogen Mod 6 RC1 Motorola Droid and the install is very transparent only works with free apps at the moment I believe but still an amazingly useful feature.

Android App Inventor -- Good or Bad?

More information available at http://appinventor.googlelabs.com/about/

The question is do you think this is a good thing or a bad thing.

I see this as a two sided sword now with the fact it is going to make a lot more trash on the market. But at the same time I'm sure some smart designers could make some interesting ways to communicate with their web communities and such with this. I do not see any good games really coming from this though which is what the site seems to use as examples. Any thoughts about this please post them in the comments lets see if we can get some constructive debate on this going.

Poll Closes In Two Days!

Just reminding everyone that the poll for what your phone of choice would be is closing in two days if you have an idea for the next poll feel free to leave the idea in the comments. Thank you everyone that voted I will move the finally tally to a blog post once it closes before I replace it with the next poll that will run a much shorter time frame.

Cyanogen Mod 6 RC1

Cyanogen Mod 6 RC1 is now on Rom Manager I believe for both Motorola Droid and the Nexus One I'm currently downloading the Motorola Droid version from there my self. If anyone is interested in links for the download due to not using Rom Manager please let me know in the comments and I will see what I can do.

Belle Mort Memento Mori

Belle Mort Memento Mori:

Beautiful death thee lay in wait for me
I hold my breath and pray to thee
Pray to feel your grasp around me
Hold me close kill me slowly
Remind me of my mortality
Their sins curse me
Mine hold me here
My mind wonders I slip into dream
Are those your fingers
Slowly sliding around me
My breath escapes me
You press tighter
The world goes black
No wake me
I surrender
I know my mortality

Cyanegen Mod 6 Alpha 7 & Baseband Files Motorola Droid

Uploading the files right now if anyone is interested in taking a peak to see how it is coming along I will see if there is a newer alpha build in a little bit to post up and try to keep this updated with the latest alpha for people wanting to test. If you are running the alpha builds please go to the CM forums/irc and leave some feed back on bugs you find to help them out some. This build is not nearly as complete as 5.0.8 but it is getting there and I cannot wait to see the final version. Wow... so the alpha is moving fast I will finish uploading alpha 3 because I have tested it but I'm downloading alpha 6 now to test and will upload while testing. So far alpha 6 looks very stable it does not seem to add many more features then alpha 3 had though. But with how fast these builds are coming out I do not think we will be waiting to long before we enter beta phase of Cyanogen Mod 6.

AppBrain Chrome2Phone Like Install System

AppBrain is working it seem as its not working yet 100% a chrome to phone like install method for their website which I have had no luck getting to work with my Cyanogen Mod 6 install. Here is the QR for the app you will need to install on your phone along with the AppBrain app which this will ask you to install. You will need to make an AppBrain account as well.

Please let me know if you have any luck getting this to work and what rom you are using if you do.

Cyanogen Mod 6 (CM6)

Running the alpha3 of Cyanogen Mod 6 right now and if your interested please leave a comment or contact me and I will either post a link or give you directions on how to find a download of it. But back on subject it looks good it is running very stable but as it is still only an alpha it is not no where near done. There are a lot of the Cyanogen Mod features still not ported over and the screen rotation seems to be limited to 270% not 360% which I think would be an okay change. Not like that many people use the phone fully upside down anyways the enhanced music app seems to have been ported over which is one of the main things I was missing about Cyanogen Mod 5.0.8 when I started testing the AOSP builds.

Only Seven Days Left

Only seven days left on the phone of your choice poll and it still looks like the Nexus one is the phone to beat. Interestingly enough there has been some movement of the other phone. And it looks like the Droid and the Evo will be finishing very close to each other. I think from now on I will only be running seven day polls thirty days is far to long the poll gets old fast.

Thank You All

Thank you all for reading my blog June has been the best month traffics wise for my blog breaking 300 visitors and making me want to keep the blog running and updating. Before I had picked it up and let it go over and over due to really no interest from the community at large. But now that I have found something interesting for readers and I way of finding the news I think I will keep the site going. If you have not already figured out what I will mostly be reporting on is my take of Android related news and rumors flying around the internet. Checking sources and giving you my take on why I believe or do not believe the rumor. From time to time App reviews and phone reviews will be posted as well but I prefer to do those after I play with them hands on. Once again thank you all for the time you spent reading and I hope to keep you coming back for more news.

GingerBread Rumor Mill Put to Rest by Google

Looks like Google's Android tech tweeted saying not to believe everything you read so looks like Droid owners are not SoL when it comes to GingerBread yet. And I do not think that Google is ready to kill off the Motorola Droid user base yet anyways. As it is at the moment the largest Android user base out there I do think that 2011 though might be about the end of the main life cycle for the unit. As people slowly move to the 4G units and the new every two will be coming up in November 2011 for most early buyers of the Motorola Droid so we should expect updates to the Droid for at least the first half of 2011.

Palm HP Deal is Done

http://www.intomobile.com/2010/07/01/farewell-palm-youre-now-a-part-of-hp/

It is a good day for them and a sad day for me I had been hoping that Google would have bought them. But I will be keeping an eye on HP to see what they do with this and what becomes of the Palm line I know a few people will be looking forward to the idea of Palm tablets.
